Default Copyright symbol in Photoshop

The copyright symbol seems to have vanished from Photo Shop's Special
Shapes menu and Alt-0169 seems to have no effect. I would be
grateful if somebody could tell me how to add a copyright symbol in a
line of text.

option-g, or copy/paste an existing copyright symbol, like this one: ©

or just use lower case c like our ancestors did.

I assume that you are working on a text layer.
If so I use the Text tool which when selected add a text layer. Since I am a
Mac user, and have not touched a Windows machine in 11+ years all I do in a
Photoshop (or any) text window is to use “Option + G” (I don’t remember
what the special operator key is in Windows) which gives me © the copyright
symbol. That also works for me in metadata in PS, LR, or Bridge, and every
other text editor.

Now what did you mean by Photoshop’s Special Shapes menu”?
I am running the current PS CC 2019 20.0.6

When adding text in PS, holding down the Alt key and typing 0169 using
the numerical keypad on your keyboard should result in the © symbol.
It will not work if you are using the number row and not the numerical
keypad.

If you do not have a numerical keypad, then Custom Shape ToolSymbols
will bring up ©. If you don't see the Symbols list, then click the
gear-shape next to whatever you do see and a dropdown will let you
change whatever is selected to the Symbols.

If the above is not clear, I'll provide a screenshot of what to look
for to find the © in the custom shapes.

It's the Custom Shape Tool grouped with the rectangle, ellipse, etc.
The icon is a distorted star. There is a dropdown to add Symbols
including the ©. It's there in 20.0.6, When you open Custom Shapes,
look at the right hand side of the top row, second from the right with
a curved arrow. I think the default contains the ©.

Also, in Windows, holding down the alt key and typing 0169 on the
numerical keypad produces the ©. You can't do that on the number row
at the top of the keyboard. Works in any app where text is added.

Hi Tony, I hope all is well in Orlando.

Yup! The Custom Shape Tool is there as part of the Edit Tool Bar, and the ©
is in that dropdown default.

As I said above, in my Mac centric World with any text, including PS Text
Tool layers, and any of the PS, LR, or Bridge Metadata File Info such as the
“Copyright Notice” text pane, I use Option/Alt + G = ©.

The last time I used a Windows machine was when I was still working. Since I
retired in 2009, not so much.

'option-g'? Go wash your mouth out.

If I had a copyright symbol of the right size to cut and paste I
would.

The lower case c has no legal standing. It has to be the c in a
circle.

That's it. Thanks.

Previously I had been looking over the LHS where the floppy star and
'shape' could be found. I completely ignored the RH end.

Also, in Windows, holding down the alt key and typing 0169 on the
numerical keypad produces the ©. You can't do that on the number row

I was using Text.

Nope. I've got my brain back into gear, thanks.
