Default Yashica Electro GSN won't stop flashing

I just tried my new-old Yashica Electro 35 GSN with a flash for the first
time and discovered that it just keeps flashing the flash.

With the flash in the hot shoe, and with the camera set at "Flash," just as
soon as the flash recycles, it goes off. From this I assume there is a short circuit
in the Flash setting of the GSN. Does anyone have a suggestion as to exactly where
that short might be? Or perhaps I've just mis-set something.... Got any ideas?

(By the way, for those who have this same problem, I reset the camera to
"Auto" -- where the flash calms down -- and then guessed the aperture settings for
each flash distance. It's a work-around but it'd be nice to have the camera do that
for me.)

For those who like to follow up fixed problems, I'll post my confession. I
discovered (by getting a small electric shock) that the PC plug on the
side of my GSN was shorting when the strap lug touched it. That happened
to be a lot of the time when the strap was in use. A piece of sticky
tape over the plug and . . . no trouble ever since. - PH
