Default Tell 'em to keep their fingers away from the glass!

A tour guide offered to use my camera and take semi-candids of us. He =
asked
for a quick how-to lesson on the camera's operation. He actually took =
some
pretty good pictures.
In the end though, believe it or not, the camera's lens had fingernail =
scratches
from attaching the len's cap and taking it off. I can only surmise he =
tilted it
and his fingers overlapped inturn touching the glass.
I almost freaked out when I discovered it back at our room. Well, to =
make
it short, I managed to clean it without adding to it or destroying the =
coating.

Yes, if you're wondering, the lens hood was used too, so I'm partially =
to blame.

that is why you should ALWAYS use a filter of some sort to protect the lens
from scratches.

I'm amazed that fingernails could be hard enough to scratch glass.

We were ATV-ing for about 4 1/2 hours thru mud, shallow
river, tight twisting trails and flat out high speed open trails. I
didn't think it was necessary to mention this. I'm forever
scraping dirt from my fingernails just from everyday outside
activities.

Very good advice. Unfortunately I had left the camera bag and =
accessories
at our lodging. No spare battery or flash card either. I wasn't =
expecting
someone else taking pictures.
