Default Canon EF 50mm 50 F2.5 Macro vs EF-S 60mm F2.8 Macro USM Lens

I have the EOS Digital Rebel XT and I am looking for a macro lens. Can
anybody tell give me some info on these two lenses: Canon EF 50mm 50
F2.5 Macro vs EF-S 60mm F2.8 Macro USM Lens.

The USM is naturally more expensive but other than that, what
differences in performance can I expect?

Will I need an adapter to get 1:1?

Thank you.

-Jeff

Since getting the EF 50 f2.5 Compact macro last year, it's become one of my
favourite lenses. (I also have the 100mm f2.8 USM) It's easy to carry, it's
sharp and one lens allows me to cover everything from architectural shots
(with real detail), street snaps (50mm on a 5D), and half (1:2) decent
macros. (I've also bought the LifeSize adapter which takes it from 1:2 to
1:1 - it's had hardly any use. I did "break the rules" and try it behind
another Canon EF lens, and the combo simply hunted around the "correct"
position.

No info about the EFS 60.
