Nikon D70 Standard Lens Versus 35-70 f2.8 Also wide angle question
I am interested in buying the D70 camera. I am trying to decide if I
should get the kit lens (18-70 zoom) that comes at an extra cost of $300? I already have a Nikkor 35-70 f2.8 lens as my every day lens. I have been very pleased with the quality of images produced by the 35-70 and wonder if the kit lens is as good. It is a lot cheaper than the 35-70 was. I understand that digital camera design effectively renders a lens "longer" when mounted on a digital body than on a film body, so my 35-70 zoom is effectively a 70-140 on the D70 and the 18-70 zoom is effectively a 16-140 when mounted on a digital body. This would seem to require that if I kept the 35-70, I would probably need a wide angle lens to cover the bottom end. Am I about right in this analysis? Suggestions? Thanks very much in advance. R. Smith ------------------ I think your calculations are a little off. The effective focal length adjustment factor is ~1.6. The Nikon 18 - 70 mm lens is effectively ~28 mm - 112 mm in focal length. Your 35 mm - 70 mm lens is effectively 56 mm - 112 mm in focal length equivalents. Most people here agree that the D70 kit lens is a good value choice. Don F |

Nikon D70 Standard Lens Versus 35-70 f2.8 Also wide angle question
I won't readdress what others have already cleared up. What I will add is
that the 18-70 is wonderful. I just bought the kit about 10 days ago and have shot hundreds of shots with it. I also have the D100 with a 12-24, 24-85 and 28-200. A great set of complimentary lenses. Oh, and the 60 Micro Get the kit. Tom "Randall Smith" wrote in message om... I am interested in buying the D70 camera. Actually, for the D70 (and I assume other Nikons), it's a 1.5 factor, not a 1.6 factor. Most people here agree that the D70 kit lens is a good value choice. Agreed. Very happy with mine. |

They only had the body, but I purchased the 12 to 24 mm lens and it is a great wide angle. The eventually received a kit and the purchaser wasn't interested in the DX lens. They let me have the lens for $300. So I now have the 12-24, the 18-70, and a 24 to 120 along with a less expensive 75 to 300 f-5.6. I do have an off brand 70 to 200, but I usually don't talk about that one :-)) Roger Halstead (K8RI & ARRL life member) (N833R, S# CD-2 Worlds oldest Debonair) www.rogerhalstead.com Tom "Randall Smith" wrote in message . com...
