Like "automatic weapon," the term "digital tripod" is a cruel marketing hoax. I think he means "Can you mount a manual SLR on it?" ... and yes, you can. Looking at it though, it doesn't look very sturdy. Yes, but for $29 and some odd change the price is right for my budget. The tripods I've seen that I like cost about $300.00 Michael Ragland |

SUNPAK 7001DX DIGITAL CAMERA TRIPOD
wrote in message ... Will it screw on to a manual SLR? Michael Ragland You cannot use a film camera tripod with a digital camera and vice versa. When you switch to digital, you must scrap everything: tripods, flashs, camera bags, etc. or your pictures won't look right. Sorry, the preceding was BS. The standard tripod thread is 1/4" diameter, 20 threads per inch. (known at your local hardware store as "quarter-twenty"). There is a European standard, 3/8" diameter, but you can get a bushing that you screw tight into the camera (maybe with some LocTite if you're daring), and then your Kiev will mount on a standard tripod. There may be other thread diamters and pitches used by manufacturers that want to force you to stay with their product line. I doubt that Sunpak does this. Go to your local hardware, get a quarter-twenty nut and bolt if you want to test it out before risking your camera or tripod. |
