If there were comment sections underneath that press release, you bet
that there would be about 219 comments flaming it, each other, and then
eventually veering off to dicuss the finer points of how liberal scum
can go sit on it and conservative pigs can go suck eggs.

I like fuji. Currently going through a brick of Acros 100. Good stuff
although more easily scratched than, let's say, hp5+ but that could
just be me.

Ilford ddx, stopbath, and fixer. Fuji's spec sheet doesn't specify
times with ddx, but I've been fudging it with pretty good results by
comparing the D76 time and working out a ratio (1+5 @ 7:30, 68/20deg).
Probably not the best but it works. Any suggestions?

Fuji seem to be the only reliable choice left for film right now. After
Ilford had their problems I tried out acros 100 and have stuck with it
and not gone back to Ilford. Acros is excellent, I dev it in pyrocat
hd.

I still use kodak tri-x and portra 160vc/nc. I use XTOL a lot to dev
tri-x too. I hope kodak doesn't get rid of them.

I use ACROS regularly and soup it in my 3-ingredient homebrew which I
mix fresh (takes 2 minutes) each time and use it as a one-shot or
two-shot if I've got enough film to soup to need two runs.

I call it PCC (Phenidone, Vitamin C, and Carbonate). I use the teaspoon
measurement method for the dry chemicals. The Phenidone I mix up in a
1% stock solution (1/2 tsp. Phenidone in 100 ml. 90% alcohol.)

Before developing, I put 1 tsp (5 g) Carbonate and 1/2 tsp (4 g Vitamin
C crystals) in a liter of water, stir till dissolved (very fast), and
then add 2.5ml of the Phenidone stock. Develop at 70 degrees for 7 1/2
minutes for beautiful ACROS negs (Rated at ISO 50 because I almost
always use a yellow filter over my lens.)

I'm still new at this stuff. How did you figure this all out? And
where can I get these ingredients? Phenodine doesn't sound like
something I can pick up at the grocery.

Photographers Formulary or Artcraft Chemicals -both on the web
google them.

There are many books with formulas.

Look for an old copy of the Photo Lab Index from about 1940-1955.

Also see Photographic Facts and Formulas by Wall.

You need an Ohus triple-beam scale.

Most developers for paper use:

Sodium Sulphite
Sodium Carbonate
Metol
Hydroquinone
Potassium Bromide

Most developers for film use:

Sodium Sulphite
Borax or Sodium Carbonate
Metol or Phenidone
Hydroquinone
Potassium Bromide

Very small amounts of most of these are used (1-5 g/l), except
carbonate for paper developers and sulphite for both. 100g quanities
will suffice for most purposes, but sulphite and carbonate should be
bought in kilogram quantities or better to get a decent price.

Hmmm. Silver halide films. Nothing about NPS, NPH,
Superia or Reala. Wonder if I should worry.
