[SI] - Marginally Sane Bounce Commentary
Michelo
http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74822579 I like it. It's like someone is bouncing in from the future. You win the Bounciest Kid Award. Jim Kramer http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74822622 Pretty weak. F/4? use a flash next time and show us some depth. You win the Horniest Butterfly Award. Ken Nadvornick http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74822703 I still remain in awe of your B&W printing skills, mostly because I'm borderline incompetent, but still, wow. Now where's the ball? ;-) You win the Largest Size Differential Award. I'm assuming that the Cougars won because Peace was just a bunch of pacifists and they already have paw prints all over them? Solomon Peachy http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74822795 I love the timing and the colors, but we need to talk about your DOF if you're going to shoot past your subject. :-) You win the Please! Not the Face Again! Award. Mardon http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74822867 I love the scale on the box. 180mm? Why not a wide? You win the Most Irritatingly Literal Award. Paul Furman http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74967690 I am truly torn by this image. You win the Wet Rock Award. That's right every one who participated is now an Award Winning Photographer; the rest of you probably aren't. Till next time... |

And I guarantee that no kids got hurt in the process. And the proof is that I could reuse it later that day for my chiaroscuro picture. But then the hair caught fire.oops! Thank you for commenting. You don't know that for sure. For all you know Peace won out. All I am saying is give Peace a chance. And what's with posting images from 1955 anyway? I mean, it's gotta be 1955 .... B/W print, white kids with glasses, and not a black player in sight. |

Peace only wins out over a Cougar if the Cougar isn't hungry or sombody with a big rock has got Peace's back. Now I'm thinking that since Peace has already been toyed with (the paw prints) that Peace is going to be dinner soon... |

Jim Kramer http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74822622 Pretty weak. F/4? use a flash next time and show us some depth. You win the Horniest Butterfly Award. It has some good qualities, I like the soft focus plus motion. That is a pretty freaky shot, not that mine is less odd. Solomon Peachy http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74822795 I love the timing and the colors, but we need to talk about your DOF if you're going to shoot past your subject. :-) You win the Please! Not the Face Again! Award. f/10 it's hard to miss. I'd rather see less cluttered background though the subject is great. Mardon http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74822867 I love the scale on the box. 180mm? Why not a wide? You win the Most Irritatingly Literal Award. Well executed but icky commercial chemicals, bleck. I'm almost sneezing from the perfumes just looking at it. Paul Furman http://www.pbase.com/shootin/image/74967690 I am truly torn by this image. You win the Wet Rock Award. Torn? Yup. Wet rock... with bad bokeh! I think it has kind of an interesting rythm but not a masterpiece. I had the long lens on looking for birds (condors) but ended up mostly shooting various closeups. That's right every one who participated is now an Award Winning Photographer; the rest of you probably aren't. Well thanks for at least attempting some comments grin. Till next time... |

Hi Jim, That you formed the mental image of a ball up there... somewhere... bouncing around, without actually *seeing* it in the photograph, was in fact my original intent. I have always been a fan of the photographically less obvious. Although admittedly the reason two basketball players might be leaping toward the roof ain't exactly oblique here, still, the viewer does need to use their 'imagination' to figure out exactly if and how this picture meets the mandate. Thanks for the printing skills compliment. I appreciate that. Sometimes one also gets a bit lucky in the juxtaposition of exactly the right complimentary tones (or colors). This may be one of those cases, as the negative printed essentially straight from the get-go. More than most, this scan was also a relatively close representation of the original print, requiring only minor digital hocus-pocus to hold an approximation of the original print's 'feel'. And for the record, care to guess who got the rebound? Not who you might think. The ball bounced over the head of both players and into the corner to the left. Once the ball hit the floor #32 lost the size advantage and #10 gained the speed advantage - and the ball. Things are not always as they seem... Final score? Peace Lutheran: 42 Zion Lutheran Cougars: 23. (These are 12-year-old, 7th grade kids.) Ken (Who at 6-feet, 6-inches and 230 lbs. is more than painfully aware of all the loose basketballs *he* lost over the years to those damn little fast guys. Ouch, he remembers.) |

Hey considering the volume of coherent text I've had to produce of late and the fact that my head feels like slightly runny Jello, just before someone drops the bowl and my personal dissatisfaction with the volume of entries; I thought my comments were insightful and obviously constitute a clear and present danger. Till next time...- Hide quoted text - |

Wow, someone I can look up to while I'm looking up to, I realize It's all a matter of perspective, but at 6' 4" it's easy to look down on most of the world, unless of course I've just failed to properly navigate one of those low doorways ;-) |

It's always tricky when your subject moves faster than the autofocus can track. As for the background... it is a shame the one of the best shots I took that day ended up with a dumpster in the background, but beggars can't be choosers. I had better "bounce" candidates, but I prefer to submit new stuff if at all possible... - Solomon [Finally starting to come up against the limits of my D70] -- Solomon Peachy pizza at shaftnet dot org Melbourne, FL ^^ (mail/jabber/gtalk) ^^ Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur.
