Just to be clear, is it badly worn or well worn? English is a funny
language.

Very true...and one of the very issues I'll be trying to explain to
Ukranian students as they learn English. I'll be traveling to
Ukraine in a couple weeks to help sort through these things...

English is a very difficult language because of meaning-shifts like
these--which seem nearly nonsensical to the learner.

But most of these come from slang, where it's considered, "cool" to
say the opposite of what you really mean....If you avoid slang terms,
your meaning will be more clear to other, "non English speaking
people, but if you are one of the non English speaking ones, then
you've got a rough time trying to figure out what others are trying
to say......

Right.
It's a tough balance in the learning process, because if you leave out the
slang, they'll be nearly lost in the real world. If you include too much
slang...it's a mess as well.

English is no more difficult to learn than any other language.

They don't need slang to get by, but the colloquial language is
important.

Not true at all.
Apparently you don't have a lot of experience in lingistics.
I'm no expert, but I did grow up in a family of full time translators, and
there is no legitimate dispute that languages have widely varying levels of
difficulty--especially when it comes to acquiring them as second languages.

Spelling in English is a nightmare compared with Spanish...as are the rules
of pronunciation when comparing the two. The difference is h-u-g-e.

Blimey, its only a worn out camera...

And Van Gogh only used worn out old pigs hair brushes, but I bet
they'll sell for a huge amount if anyone could ever find them...

Not to historians.

For that matter...used chewing gum is worth big $$ if the right person
chewed it...

Yes. Spanish is phonetic, and English is not. Even I have no trouble
pronouncing Spanish, and I don't speak it at all. Once you learn how to
pronounce the vowels, you are home free. But english pronunciation varies
from place to place, as well as from word to word, with no apparent rhyme or
reason behind it. - I am reminded of "Gough" Street in San Francisco. Some
pronounce it to rhyme with "plough", and some to rhyme with "trough", and
one guy I know pronounces it to rhyme with "through" .....

Here's another fun one:
If you've got a truly complete dictionary...look up the word "run" and count
the definitions.

-Or how about bough, cough, tough, through (& threw).
Or wrote and rote, wrought & rot, cot & cought, threw & through, bomb &
comb(???!!), womb & room & plume & fume. -Oh, and that's "fYooom"...not
"foom" as it is in plume.
Too, to & two...right, rite & write...wrote & rote.
Weigh & way & whey...hay & hey... Message & massage--how's that "g" go
again?
miC-e & miCrophone.
THe & THick...
acTION vs. tenSION vs. SHUN.

Weeeeeeee...what fun English is...unless you have to learn it--or worse--
SPELL IT!!

....I could go on forever (and the mayhem that is English nearly does).
See it now, Mxmanic?

Actually, English is a very easy language to learn, but hard to
master.

Ah.
A "cute" statement...but unless you validate an *extremely crude* version of
"learn," I think you're merely being...well...only cute.

Darn, it appears they changed the picture. It used to show the Pentax
SLR. So, this post doesn't make any bit of sense now.

Huh? It still does, shows a Pentax ZX-7 advertised as a Leica M7.

Priced at $3,495 which seems a bit steep for a ZX-7 to me.
