Bronica gs-1
New to medium format, are the older ETR MC lenses compatible with the
Bronica GS-1? Found a couple at a good price, but can not find any real docs on the differences. Thanks Billg24 |

No.
ETR, SQ & GS all take different lenses. "billg24" wrote in message link.net... New to medium format, are the older ETR MC lenses compatible with the Bronica GS-1? Found a couple at a good price, but can not find any real docs on the differences. Thanks Billg24 |

After all, the GS is 6x7, compared to that the ETR could nearly be called 'half-frame' at 6x4.5. So the GS lenses have to cover a much larger circle. But I find that there are quite a lot of used 'PG' type lenses for the GS around (and usually at much better prices than for the SQ system sigh). If weight doesn't matter, I'd take a look at the Mamiya 6x7 (RB/RZ) cameras. They're much heavier, but you can find lots of them used, all kinds of accessories, and they've got the turning film magazine which allows you to take portrait format shots without having to see the viewfinder image upside down ;-). I think the RB/RZ systems are far more versatile and better supported.
RB in particular is a mechanical system and unless weight is at a real premium, I'd leave the Bronica lines alone. They are well made cameras with good optics: however they are electronic, they offer no compelling advantage over competing systems and there's no interchangeability at all between them. If you don't really need 6x7-as in, really-Hasselblad is hands down a better option if you need a SLR. I'm seriously contemplating buying a new Rollei TLR despite the ridiculous price, I value its quietness and simplicity so much. I've looked at Peter Gowland's offerings, but they're just way too big and conspicuous. |
