Anybody recently bought a used lens from sellers in Canada ?
What is the customs situation ?
Is shipping cross border expensive ?

Have it shipped by mail. USPS probably won't bother you about duty,
and if they do you can clear the thing through yourself.

If you have it sent by a delivery service, for example UPS or FedEx,
they'll hand it over to a customs broker for to be cleared through
customs and you'll have to pay an extortionate fee for no service.

I'm also pretty sure it works both ways, I don't think there is usally any
customs duty on LF lenses coming from Canada under NAFTA (but the details
vary - and the customs regs are nothing if not confusing...). Add to which
if the lens was made in the US in the first palce (eg most Ektars etc) there
would generally be no duty.

I've usually shipped used LF stuff, including lenses, down to the US via
Canada Post/USPS and I don't think anyone has ever been charged imprt duty.
UPS and Fedex seem to screw up most of the time + charge you a fee for doing
so.
