Thanks to everyone. There will be enough coverage as the "wide" dimension is
less than five inches.
Someone once told me about a good machine shop around Midway Airport (I'm in
Chicago)...sounded like a great idea since they must do alot of critical work
for the local aviation concerns...trouble is that I forgot the name...("...my
boy, you must carry a small notebook with you at all times so that you can
write down these pearls of wisdom as I dispense them to you.")
I guess that I associate the file route with my college days where everyone was
ripping the **** out of their 35mm carriers to show some of the film rebate
around the image to guarantee that they were printing full frame. In those
days, the raggedy-er the better as it was artsy and crated an "individual"
signature for the photographer..I suppose that it could be done carefully and
neatly, though. I DO have a Dremel set, as I think that I mentioned, and was
thinking that the Dremel might do a better job.
It's becoming obvious to me that neg carriers are starting to get somewhat
scarce..those that have them are using them and will not part with them and the
new ones are getting too expensive to make experimentation anything but a nerve
wracking experience.

Does this mean the total size is less then 4x5? Then why not get a glass
4x5 and mask it off to size? Remove the mask when you need 4x5. One carrier
and it'll handle all smaller sizes.

I doubt it. It's very easy for a motorized grinder to quickly make a mess of
something. Going slowly with a hand file (unless you're -very- highly
skilled with a dremel tool) a hand file will be a much safer way to do it.
Sure you can roughly open it up with a file, just like you can hack it up
with a dremel tool!

For many of us, finding a machinist and then the wait for the job would
take days. An hour listening to some good music as one files and shapes is
a pretty good alternative.

Also going back and there being a misunderstanding and the other person
(machinist) doesn't make it exactly like you want. You'll spend more time
driving there, explaining/talking them into doing it/making drawings etc,
then driving back to pick it up than it takes to do it! Also many
machinists have a minimum of like $50-$75 on custom work so unless you make
more than that a hour, makes sense to do it yourself.

Which one(s) do you need?

Actually, with the aquisition of the two holders that I got form ebay, I now
have every holder tht I'm ever likely to need...I will try to find a 127 holder
for my Omega b22, but as far as the Beseler is concerned I'm "done".
(As if any of us will EVER have enough stuff...one of the great things about
photography is that there is always more STUFF to be gotten! Now if I could
stop worrying about the STUFF and get some work done, I'd be happy.)
