Sony DSC-717

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade to a better digital camera this year but I'm
holding off until the end of the year because I'll be visiting Japan and
hope to save some money by buying it in Tokyo.
I've been looking at the Sony DSC-717 because I've had a Sony digital
(bought it in Tokyo and saved about 25%) for a couple of years and its a
good camera.
I've been looking at other makes but not knowing a lot about digital cameras
I'm getting lost in all the jargon.
Does anyone have a DSC-717 or equivalent camera of another make? Is the 717
a good camera or should I be looking elsewhere.
I'd be very grateful for any information anyone can give me.
