Default Light struck colour paper?

Hi,
I picked up a few rolls of Fuji roll paper for a good price.
One of the bags was open when I received the package. From looking at my
test prints the paper was obviously light struck. I'm testing by exposing
half a cut sheet to a grey negative and covering the other half of the
sheet. At worst the paper is black. At best the unexposed half is pink.

I'm
wondering if the paper might have piped light? Some of the sheets I've cut
only the edges are black but the whole sheet would show the pink. So far
I've only cut about 10feet off the roll so next step is to cut a chunk off
further in.

Nick

(Can we first assume that the pink is not a chemical problem? Isn't pink
stain a sign of bleach-fix contamination of the developer? I suppose that
partial light struck would have vignetted edges, while chemical
contamination would have more sharp edges to the pink areas?)

I use my roll paper in "cassettes" (large metal boxes) where the paper feeds
out thru a light trap similar to a 35mm film cassette. A couple inches of
paper sticks out of each cassette sitting on the shelf in room light. I have
not experienced light "piping".

I don't know about Fuji paper, but the Kodak paper I use is rolled emulsion
side out. So if the bag was open, possibly the entire first layer of paper
will be light struck. Assuming the roll is tightly wrapped, once you get in
a couple layers, you may be OK. Assuming also if the roll is one foot in
diameter, the first layer of paper is going to be 3.14 feet long
(circumference of a circle=pi times diameter).

How do you feel about having wide black borders on your prints?!

I'm open to anything but I don't think it's a chemical issue. If it's a
chemical issue it happened right between switching papers. I guess it's
possible but not very likely. Could it be a storage issue?

This stuff feels much thinner then the Kodak stuff I'm used to.

I ripped a bunch of paper off the end yesterday then cut some more and
stuck it in the paper safe to warm up. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I'll
have a chance to test it.

Funny thing is the grey image isn't bad but the whites are all going to be
pink-)
