What caused this messed up camera?
Nikon coolpix 5700
This was during the initial meltdown: http://edgehill.net/temp/sick-nikon This is an original with exif data: http://edgehill.net/temp/sick-nikon/pg2pc7 Looks like something terribly wrong in the processing to me. |

You're victim of a dud Sony sensor. Contact Nikon service, they should fix it for free. http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html Ah, thanks, I'll pass that on! |

Thankfully I was using my little old A70 only for snapshots. http://homepage.mac.com/getosx/China/0979_us.jpg Greg -- Ticketmaster and Ticketweb suck, but everyone knows that: http://ticketmastersucks.org "Ya gotta stop riding the brakes, ya gotta stop robbing the cradle" - Chris D |

You're victim of a dud Sony sensor. Interestingly enough, I have a Sony SNC-RZ30N (a pan/tilt/zoom webcam) with almost the exact same problem, just moreso. -- - Michael J. Astrauskas |

The image file itself is perfectly normal. It has stored what the electronics thought came out of the CCD (although this is not necessarily what the CCD actually measured). Someone sets the shutter for 1 second exposure and pans it. They would need remarkable allignment skills to pan it exactly parallel to the CCD array axis. The exif says 1/40 sec ISO 400 f/4.8 19mm The readout logic or possibly the shutter has died and it is smearing the image as it gets read from the chip. Not surprisingly with garbage being read from the chip the autofocus is hosed too. Regards, Martin Brown |
