Mamiya 645 Super
Hi,
Until now I've been completely digital (semi-pro) but I love photography and want to explore different areas as well. I've got what I think is a very good offer on a Mamiya 645 Super with 120 and Pol filmback and a 80mm f/1.8 I'm new to medium-format and this is mostly as an experiment. However, I don't want to buy something that sucks. So .. What are your opinions on this camera? Also, does anyone have a link to an online manual? Thank you! |

Mamiya 645 Super
M645 Super is a very fine camera. The one you're looking at is not the
cheaper de-featured 645E is it?...that has pentamirror rather than higher quality pentaprism! Does this M645 Super come with a metering finder? If so, that is a nice metering system with averaging and spot and autoselection mode. My only 'beefs' about the M645 are that, as a wedding shooter, I would not be as suitable as my Bronica ETRSi because it uses focal plane shutter with 1/60 Xsynch, so does not do syncho-sun fill as readily. While a few lenses have leaf shutters, most have to be used with FP shutter, and you lose any exposure automation when using leaf shuttered lenses. My ETRSi behaves more like a Hassy in terms of its features for a wedding shooter. But if you have no need for film based med format wedding shooting, the M645 is a darned nice camera. |

Mamiya 645 Super
You show be able to get a manual from the Mamiya website. If it's not
there they would probably email one to you. They did to me. I have a 645E but I would suggest trying it out first. Mine has a tendency to occasionally pop open in the back (!) when the picture is taken and the mirror moves up...if I keep a thumb on the back it doesn't usually happen but...not the easiest to hold...I got a Fuji 670 rangefinder and like it much better.
