What it does do is point you towards a page that contains a hacked version of the camera firmware, this hacked version is commonly called the 'Wasia hack'. A Google search using Wasia and Hack will yield scores of hits. There is even a Yahoo group for those interested in hacking the 300D (and other digital cameras). http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canondigicamhacking/ This hacked firmware does turn back on some of the features of the 300D that are not active in the Canon firmware. In a few cases there are reasons that the original Canon firmware does not allow access to these functions, because they will not work well in the 300D, in other cases the turned on functions work fine. What it allows is outlined he http://satinfo.narod.ru/en/index.html However, to turn a 300D into a 10D would require more than just turning on a few dumbed down features. The 10D is much better built than the 300D. This is probably the largest part of the price difference between the two cameras. The 10D has a much larger buffer for continuous shooting. The 10D shutter is rated for more than twice the life of the 300D. And, the sensor between the 300D and the 10D is different. Exactly what these differences are Canon is not saying, but they are measurably different and they carry a different part number. Although the majority of the Wasia Hack users are very happy, there have been a couple of reported failures to the camera after installing the hacked firmware. Most people have reported that you could simply reinstall the factory firmware to fix this, but a few have reported that the camera had to go back to the manufacturer to be repaired...and using the hack will void the warrenty.
