Default Sony lenses for KM

Hi All

Found an interesting interview on a Sony website today. Have been trying to
ponder where it will all lead.

Towards Nikon needing a new source for dSLR sensors...

Still, 20 new lenses is a lot of lenses. (A quick glance through the annual
Japanese review of all current AF lenses shows that the (Konica) Minolta
lenses range from solid performers to excellent performers, albeit at list
prices that are a tad high. Maybe Sony inherited a stable of excellent lens
designers and decided to let them do their thing.)

And that was my first thought when I heard Sony acquired K-M's camera
business. Sony doesn't seem to mind selling small sensors to the
competition, but this may be a little different. If they want to become the
premier player in that market, they can't share the sensors any more than
Canon can share theirs; that's self-defeating. I believe this will lead to a
Nikon-Fuji merger or acquisition. Maybe a Kodak-Nikon merger. Clearly, Nikon
needs a stable source of sensors, and their camera bodies and lenses
complement the sensors produced by Fuji or Kodak, or maybe some other sensor
maker very well. They have a professional and amateur following, and own
some of the finest glass in the business, but without sensors, they're dead
meat. We'll see. The shake-out will continue for some time.
