Default Super-Multicoated Filters

Users of Super Multicoated filters, what are you seeing that justifies
their price? Do they provide any difference in a non-flare situation.
Light transmission is increased I believe its claimed. How much of an
f/stop does that amount to? Thanks KAS

It is questionable as to how much flare they actually reduce. Perhaps in
some specific lighting conditions they make a difference. I use plain
Pentax (non-multicoated) filters, but I do use lens hoods. These DO reduce
flare and off-axis light.

I have read that multicoated filters, specifically Hoya brand, seem to be
difficult to clean. There is a special cleaning fluid that is used on those
filters. Apparently they are prone to smearing when they are cleaned with
regular Kodak lens fluid.

I have never seen any empirical test results that quantify the degree of
reduced flare or glare results from use of multicoated filters.

I'm not saying that they hurt, only that it is uncertain if they actually
help, and under what specific conditions they work best..
