Are you a commercial photographer? Were you on assignment when the theft
occurred? If you do work for any major international publisher or news
agency, they might be able to help you obtain financing to replace the lost
equipment and/or insurance to protect the new equipment in the future.

I work for POLISH edition of National Geographic Magazine.
Buying this digital camera was the only way to exist because they offer
20, max 30 rolls of dias for ALL normal material and they do not care
about anything elese and any other cost.
Just a another third world in the middle of Europe.
There are nothing to say.
Maybe I'll just change my life way...

B, I think he's intelligent enough to make his own decisions and
C, this is one of only three eBay sellers claiming to have the camera in
stock.

While I feel for anyones lose -- I had 17K worth of my stuff stolen from my
apartment while away on vacation several years ago -- even 17K is not worth
dying for no matter how violated theft makes you feel

material things can be replace - life can not -- at least not if you are not
a frankestein or is that frankensteen..

BTW -- I had renters insurance that pay for most of the stuff to be replaced

I'll also look at my coverage rules as I tote around my photo gear on
vacation -- may need another rider if I ever get that much $$ in lenses and
camera

Ok I have no where near the gear this guy has, but do most of you pros
insure your gear? I picked up a 20D and a few lenses so far and there is
no
way I could afford to replace them if this happened. I'm thinking I need
some insurance or something, I get paranoid every time I leave the house
without my gear, just walking around with 3 grand on your neck seems like
it
could get you in some trouble (I'm only about 160 lbs but they would have
to
pry it from my cold, dead hands).

My comment was directed to the person who said they would pry his camera
from his cold dead hand, not Tashi

I'm very sorry for Tashi's loss and wish him the best in getting back on
track -- I've been there in having large amount of my "stuff" taken by
thieves - I have no place for them, but I also think a persons life is worth
a bit more than a few bits of camera equipment

However, his email address suggests that he is not a Westerner.

He is from the East. A look into national income levels, and under
an assumption of being in the national median in purchasing power,
I conclude that $15K might have been quite a change...

Anyway, it is a good idea to publish the serial #'s of the stolen
good, and a good idea to warn others to take well care of the
equipment.


Over the years of my life I have spend total of 3-4 years straight
while traveling with equipment, from bitter cold on Geenland to
lush and humid rain forests. My F4 was stolen in Italy, but this
was if you so want a "lucky case" for me. I was back than young
and the F4 was over my budget. To compensate I bought a...
mediocre Tokina glass and the entire combination was ridiculous
to say the least. I earned some sarcastic comments from a
photographer, who happen to have traveled in the train in the
same direction. He was using a F800 as a 2nd body.

His sarcasm was well deserved.

Once my insurance paid me, I did it better: I took a F800 and
a prime glass for the same money. A while later I sold the F800
and I took a F90. I still use the F90, seemingly one of the
most robust workhorses ever made by Nikon!!!

Anyway dear Marek, I wish you the best in replacing the
lost toys!!

You might be kind of... not exactly well informed...

This is a completely different story, but let me tell it anyway:

For someone who lives in the Silicon Valley, and cannot see
Americans anymore, this sounds strange. We have been conquered
by Indians. Once they gather hiring positions, they often hire
only other Indians. Entire teams and levels of offices are
occupied by people with names which we cannot spell or pronounce.
They partly ignore each other, and not cooperate regardless
grave problems in the quality of products, because of the ancient
cast system ruling their society. National Geographer has published
recently a few travel and ethnic reports about India. I found
interesting a report of someone who was disfigured by acid by
"good citizens," because he took a bath in a pool reserved for
another better cast. He was expected to clean sewage, period.

Their entire families collect for homes and they buy out
American homes for prices which make you stand speechless.

For example, a larger condo in our fenced compound here was
recently put on a market. I looked at it, I saw no any other
white face, only people running barefoot with Indian dresses,
and a few Asians. I found the kitchen in appalling condition,
bad cut and bad location toward busy front street. No thanks,
good buy.

The agent told us later that the condo received over 30 bids
and went for.... $75 K over asking to an Indian bidder. Poor
people, eh? Well, from the billion to chose from, they have
enough people who can right out outprice you to the ground
in your own country. Unless, someone will finally put a stop
to the flood of visas and to the outsourcing of our jobs...

An American friend of mine was with Intel for almost 20 years,
extremely skilled in physics and mathematics. I knew him from
the many project for our NATO defenses. He used to design the
best specialized semiconductors on the planet and proudly
swing the star spangled banner among pictures of American
veterans in his family. But as his wife was battling cancer
and he was laid out as "unnecessary load" in one of the reorgs
at Intel (paradoxically the department manager was Indian), his
life took a spiral change toward the bottom of the society.
Nowadays he tries to survive on being a valet parking driver
with a hotel, selling part time in electronic store, and
such short jobs.

The poorest areas on the planet are partly *blocks of homes*
right here in America, among us. Do not forget this! I will
never take US citizenship, this society is too sick for my taste.

If I had any personal experience with the shop, I might not have. But, in
my opinion, by telling him that the shop does have a bad reputation "in the
same breath" as telling him that they have the camera he needs, I gave
unbiased information. As I said, I think he is intelligent enough to read
feedback and make up his own mind. I just wanted him to know that the
camera is available, or at least the stores claim it is.

I don't know why you find that so hard to understand, but I guess we'll just
have to agree to disagree on that respect.
