Olympus xD H series - 2gb available for SP570UZ?
I was looking on the Olympus web site and I can't seem to find
any listings for xD H series cards in 2gb capacity for the SP570UZ. They only list type M and M+ Is the H series being discontinued? Will a 2gb xD H series card even work in the SP570UZ? And if you would be so kind as to explain what the deal is with the M+ vs the H series, I would appreciate it. It almost seems like they are dropping the entire H series in favor of the slower M+ format or something. My camera is currently using an Olympus brand M series 2gb xD card with no problems, but it does seem a bit slow. But I'm just unsure of what my options are. I was hoping to get the absolute fastest card, which is the H series, but I'm not sure that a 2gb H series is even an option. Thanks |

Olympus xD H series - 2gb available for SP570UZ?
Sadly xd is just slow, full stop. The various types don't make
much difference in my limited experience. I will never buy another camera which only takes xd. The SP-5*0 range is well featured and fairly priced, but my 550 is my first and hopefully last experience of xd cards. Someone else may have more knowledge and better experience than me though. Andrew McP My Oly C5050 has both xD and Compact Flash slots (can also use Smart Media) and I can switch between them. I would have preferred an SD card setup, however, after searching for a SuperZoom for years (yep, years) I finally found the model that met my needs, and it just happened to be xD only. I almost got the Canon S5 but the EVF in that is very blocky and it seemed to have a weak flash and red-eye problems. The EVF in the SP570UZ is the ONLY one I have been able to find that has the resolution and clarity to let me focus and discern details. It was like night and day, the S5 vs the SP570. I wanted standard AA batteries, a hot shoe and an EVF that had a high enough resolution that I could actually use it, and the SP570 fit the bill. And just like my C5050, this thing doesn't produce Red-Eye in 99.9% of the pics I have taken. In fact, out of all the pics I have taken with this SP570, there is only a single pic that showed a tiny hint of red-eye. I've had Red-Eye issues with two Canon's but almost none with two Oly's. Go figure. Anyway, thank you much for the reply. I do appreciate it. PS - I do wish I could find out what the resolution of the EVF actually is. Can't seem to locate it on the Oly site or any other site for that matter. Happy Shooting. |

Olympus xD H series - 2gb available for SP570UZ?
Sadly xd is just slow, full stop. The various types don't make
much difference in my limited experience. I just did a stop-watch benchmark between a M series xD card and an H series xD card. 10 shots, accumulative total. H was 15% faster than the basic M card. I had thought it would be more. Perhaps the fact that the 570 has a 45 meg internal memory buffer is negating some of the expected gains of the H series media? |

Yes. I started out with an S1, and I loved that camera... except for its EVF. Bl**dy awful, and I nearly sent it back when it arrived. Canon have failed to upgrade it in their otherwise excellent S2/3/5 series. That's the only reason I didn't buy one. In general I'm a big fan of the feedback & creative potential EVFs have to offer. I'd even like one on my DSLR. But a bad EVF is worse than no EVF at all. The Olympus EVF is pretty good though. It could be better, but it could also be an awful lot worse, as canon continue to prove! :-) Have you had a chance to try out the Olympus SP570UZ and actually use and work with the EVF on that model? If you have not yet had a chance to, I think it would be worth a look. It seems to me to be one of the best, if not THE best EVF displays that I have used in a non-SLR digital camera. If you have seen a better one, please share the model number so I can go out and see if I can check it out for myself so that I can compare it to the SP570UZ. Anyway, thanks much. I appreciate the help. |
