Obviously the mandate was not one many people favoured.
I myself had to think deeply about it before deciding to contribute.
Those who did make the effort managed an interesting chapter of the shootin.

Mardon...
I've never seen anything in my life like this. Never seen snow (except in
pictures) so for me, this shot held great interest. Congratulations.

Robert Crain...
Good to see some new talent. Perhaps a flag is mundane to some but it is a
method used for decades to bond nations. Without the wind, the flag wouldn't
be seen.

Bowser...
Film I presume? I like the composure. It exemplifies the rule of thirds
about as well as 1000 words could. Nice shot.

Ken Nadvornick...
Absolutely. Blown away by it all!

Paul Campbell...
It makes me wonder how many shots you took to get the shutter speed just
right to keep the notion of motion in the viewer. Great impression, not so
great composition but still noteworthy for it's technical correctness.

Jim Kramer...
Clearly a thinking mans photographer. I've been thinking about it for a
while now but I'll be blowed if I can figure it out. Excellent concept. It
would work well in a psychologists office, I imagine!

Douglas MacDonald (me)
Since I was a child, Australian POST weekly magazine ran cartoons about this
fellow and the Ettamogah pub. "Bluey" is his name. The cartoonist brought
the somewhat odd, "Aussie humour" of outback Australian living and a hard
worker's mateship ...long since lost in this country, to the waiting rooms
and barber shops of the nation. For me, pictures like this are the very
texture of the Australia I grew up in and will never experience ever again.

Actually it is a bit of a story.

Imagine if you will several large dogs that like to dig in clay soil
under the porch to find that Oh-So-Comfortable hole. This causes the
siding to always be covered with dust from this activity. It is a
covered porch so the rain never washes the dust off; unless I hit it
with a hose.

Now imagine a poor innocent spider quietly jumping from point to point
along the siding. At each stopping point it fixes its dragline to the
siding and goes on its merry way.

Now imagine a nearly incessant wind that causes the drag lines to flap
and break free, being now fixed at just one point, spinning madly in
the wind knocking the dust off the siding.

Oh you don't have to imagine, look at my picture. :-)

Thanks for commenting,
Jim

No comment on my pic, Douggie?

BTW, I failed to see the "wind" connection your pic, D-Mac.
Perhaps you were breaking wind when you took it?

Surprisingly, the first shot of the three that I took was the one that
looked the best. Faster shutter speeds froze the blades so there wasn't
any feel of motion or wind being generated, so I didn't like them as
much. I wish I had had a tripod with me; I think 1/30 s would have
looked better.
Thanks for your comments and critiques.

Thanks for the review. If you had a chance to see snow as much and as
often as I do, you'd be glad to settle for seeing it only in photos.

You could always choose to live somewhere else!

How many months of snow do you get?

Only 13 months now, thanks to the global warming. It's snowing here tonight,
so Mardon will get it in two days.
