Default Card Reader?

I need a card reader with the following specs:

1. INTERNAL - Fits 3.5"" or 5-1/4"" drive bay
2. XD compatible (Must support 1 Gig XD cards)
3. USB 2.0 rated
4. Beige faceplate
5. Front USB port

Any recommendations for a card reader that meets this?

Other than that I've never heard of a drive bay device that
attaches via a front USB port, your spec's are insufficient. You
might find a reader that is compatible with 1GB Type M xD cards but
not compatible with 1GB Type H xD cards. Perhaps you have no need
for 2GB xD cards, but they exist (I have one), so you may want to
make sure that the reader doesn't have a 1GB max. card size limit.

I think the OP wants a reader that also has a USB port, not one that
connects via a port on the front of the reader.
The device would connect through a port on the MB.

Hello, Bill:

Yes, I believe that you're correct. I obtained such an item (a generic
one, featuring USB 2.0 "Hi-Speed"), via eBay, a few years ago.

However, as my AT mainboard's (Tyan S1830S "Tsunami") headers only
support USB 1.1, I attached the reader/writer to my PCI USB card's
internal socket.

I needed to use a Stratitec USBM4EXT "mini hub," also, as the device's
card slots required a separate cable, from its USB port; the latter is
really handy, where USB "key drives" are concerned.

Overall, it's quite convenient and saves some desktop space (and frees
up a USB connector), that had been taken by its external counterpart.

Cordially,
John Turco
