how to remove dithering in scanned images?
Scanning photos/illustrations at high resolution (e.g. 400dpi) results in
visible dithering dots. Is there a software to change the dithering into solid color without making the image blurry? |

Could you post it somewhere so we could see the "dithering dots"?
Meanwhile, try converting to LAB, then apply the "median" filter to the a and/or b channels if the dither appears there. Try scanning the image on the diagonal, too. www.scantips.com, referred to
above, has a number of suggestions. Maris Matt Ion wrote: peter wrote: Scanning photos/illustrations at high resolution (e.g. 400dpi) results in visible dithering dots. Sounds like you're talking about a "screening" effect that you'll get if scanning halftoned prints, like in magazines and newspapers. It's caused by the scanning resolution not matching the print's dot resolution. Most scanning software should have a "descreening" function, try using that. Or play with the resolution you're scanning at to get something that more closely matches the print's resolution or a multiple of it. |
