Choice of SD card for S3IS?
Hi everyone,
I bought an S3 IS at Christmas and have been delighted with it so far. My one issue is that my current memory card (a 512mb unbranded) seems to be too slow for sustained video transfer. I am thinking of buying a couple of new cards, but I am keen to be able to fill the card (or 1Gb) with video if I so choose. I am also keen to keep the cost to a minimum if possible to allow me to buy as many as possible. The reason I want as many as possible is that my wife and I are taking a year out from work to travel the world so I would like to take as many cards as I can so that I can get by if I don't get a chance to back them up as often as I would like. So what size, make and/or speed should I go for? Is 2Gb the max size the camera will take (I know I will only be able to record 1Gb of video at a time)? Thanks in advance, John |

Something like a Sandisk Ultra II card would be plenty speed-wise; a quick check shows that 2 Gb versions are selling for $60-80ish. 1 Gb cards are a bit more than half that in price. Plenty of other examples from other manufacturers; look for cards with a speed rating of 60x or higher to give you plenty of slack. The really fast cards (100x and above) cost more; I'd give those a miss. -dms |

Thanks in advance, John Have a look at this site http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/cat/Flash-M...t/CompactFlash They have a good selection at good prices. The other option is to stick to 1 or pref 2 cards (in case one fails!) and buy one of the portable Data Drives, (it's like a portable hard drive) you can then transfer your images to it when your card is full. I haven't got a clue what sizes they come in nowadays, or their price, but it is worth having a look. ATB Mick |

According to http://www.patriotmem.com/support/flashCompatp.jsp your camera will take a 4 GB card. Thanks in advance, John |
