Water resistance?
Ok, so Olympus has a few weatherproof digitals, but how much of a problem is
the occasional rain drop or water splash on a digital camera. Are these things extremely finicky about staying desert dry? I'm thinking about the sony DSC-W1, Olympus C-7000, Powershot S70, and Panasonic DMC FX7, and of course, the Olympus Stylus 410. Quite a range, I know, but they each have some features that I really like, and none of them are perfect. Any thoughts? I intend to use this for outdoors photography, especially when flyfishing. I took my Sony Cybershot PSC-10 to Las Vegas and one day all my relatives
decided to go swimming at Ceasar's huge wading pool. I went right in the water with my Cybershot and got some nice photos. I got some little splashes on the camera and it still performed admirably. I know it's foolish to take a $450 camera into the water but I wanted to get photos of my son playing. I've also taken photos in the rain (misty or drizzle, not a downpour). It still worked well up until recently when it developed unrelated mechanical problems. However, if I were to be near water all the time, you can get a waterproof housing for certain digital cameras. I almost dunked my camera a few months later when I was taking more photos while standing in a pool. I used to work in a camera shop and I saw a few 35 mm SLR's that were ruined by being exposed to beach air. Water will get into everything if you leave it exposed long enough. Hope it helps.
