If it's plastic, it figures. If the button is magnesium, put it down
to the same CHINESE "craftsmanship" that creates $10 socket sets they
sell at WALMART.

You're a frikkin' prejudiced bigot. Here's a quote from a discussion about
products made in China:

"This is the 4th manufacturing company I've worked for. Back in 2000, I
worked for a company that we were working with Disney products at the time
but we were producing for the Canadian market (mainly Walmart, Shoppers
Drugmart, HBC). Now Disney has very high standards that applied even to us
just using their licensing, so we took samples of products produced in the
southern states, Montreal (in Quebec, Canada) and new plants in China. Even
though the route of choosing China was not the greatest due to lead times
for us to ship finished goods, the quality of the products produced in China
were the best. Disney just didn't agree, they insisted.

Now I work for a beer company, and the feedback from colleagues in the
industry who have left Canada to go work in the expanding markets in asia
have looked at some of the industrial parks over there for real-estate
surveying and are amazed at the existing production facilities that exist
for other manufacturing. Not just the state of the art production
facilities, but the amount of foreign investment that has already occurred.
I was actually heading towards working in China for our parent company,
AMBEV/INBEV, but they've changed some of the contract commitments from 18
months to 3yrs. Too long for me."

Here's another quote from a discussion about products made in China:

"I wouldn't give you ten cents for the whole damn country. Business to
them is stealing somebody else's design, manufacturing a billion cheap
knock-off copies, shipping them to one of their confederates like
Walmart, undercutting American jobs under the veil of doing Americans a
favor - like we need gooks to do us a damn favor."

I wouldn't get too dewy eyed over the Chinese - there appears to be
*nothing* that they will not counterfeit.

Yesterday, BBC Radio 4 carried an (to me) absolutely amazing report of a
recent Chinese scam in which eggs (yes, 'egg's' - as from hens!) were mass
produced completely synthetically from the shell to the yolk!, before being
shipped in their millions to markets in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, etc.

These 'eggs' were a complete chemical concoction - they looked like eggs,
they even cooked like eggs, but they tasted of 'nothing' and they produced
severe stomach pains, memory-loss, and even dementia, in those unlucky
enough to have purchased them.

So, do the Chinese have *any* scruples? - not in my opinion.

So the red commy *******s are showing us how capitalism should be done.
What are you complaining about? Haven't we all been told that socialism
is dead and the market is the only arbiter. So the Chinese wouldn't
produce this stuff if there was no demand for it. What are you, some
kind of liberal?

I'm an egg eater! - it was bad enough when Edwina warned us all about
salmonella. Now there is a new threat to contend with - 100% non-organic
eggs from the Lucky Sunshine Chemical Corporation!

It's the most amazing thing I've heard for ages! - imagine all the trouble
they went to in order to produce an 'egg' (that looked and cooked) like an
egg, but which had never come with a mile of a hen!

We're not talking 'powdered egg' (a la WWll extremeties) or egg-derived
products here! - these are 100% synthetic 'eggs', made entirely from a
noxious assortment of chemical ingredients and carefully shaped and
fashioned to look like the real thing!

According to the BBC, the only discernible differences were [1] the 'shell'
was a bit thinner than normal, and [2] the 'white' bubbled up a bit more
when frying it! - plus, of course, the terrifying side effects when eaten

It's simply mind-boggling!

Actually, it's not.

The original case was well documented in the Chinese press - and,
subsequently, strenuous efforts have been made to deny it, either by an
embarrassed Chinese government, or by people who simply can't (or don't want
to) grasp the extent of the duplicity.

Certainly, the story was mentioned yesterday by the BBC - so they, at least,
must have been satisfied that it was genuine.

Personally, I have not the slightest doubt that the Chinese would do it -
and worse.
