It's probably a printing screen, many, including me, feel it gives a vintage
feel to the image. I use one that my dad had, back in the '40s, my wife
uses it, too.

Ok, I have used texture screens in my b/w enlarging days - many years
ago now - but I don't like the effect of that one. Looks like orange
peel.

Looks like a hawk ****ed a heron.

It's a green heron; one of the spookiest birds on the planet. I'm impressed
that he got that close to anyone and then didn't completely freak when the
shutter tripped.

Write to the photog. May have to do with the way the image was
scanned.

However I think grain like this is a wonderful texture for the
subject. Mor important is the balance of fill lighting and
background lighting on the right. I can imagine the prints must
be stunning.
