It's probably a printing screen, many, including me, feel it gives a vintage
feel to the image. May have to do with the way the image was scanned. However I think grain like this is a wonderful texture for the subject. Mor important is the balance of fill lighting and background lighting on the right. I can imagine the prints must be stunning.
