Default Canon PowerShot S2 IS versus Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6

The Canon PowerShot S2 IS costs about $60 more than the Konica
Minolta DiMAGE Z6. In your opinion, is it worth the difference?

The review on Steve's DigiCams:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/s2is.html

makes the S2 sound almost perfect but the review on the PC Magazine
web site:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1836605,00.asp

is not nearly as good. I was not able to find a review of the Z6 on
the PC Magazine web site. Have any other magazines reviewed these
two cameras?

Thank you in advance for all replies.

For some strange reason those of us who are owned by cats
ascribe motives to the cat that are more benign than the
cat's real motives. For example if the cat gets in the
way when we are trying to do something we say it is "helping".

MacWorld reviewed the Z5 which is almost identical except the number of
pixels.

http://www.macworld.com/2005/04/revi...mage/index.php

Then they reviewed the Z6:

http://www.macworld.com/2006/02/revi...gez6/index.php

Usually the Cannons are better but have so many controls they take a
while to master. On the other hand the Minolta is simpler to use but
doesn't have quite the optical quality.

They compared cameras with the Z6 at:

http://www.macworld.com/topics/hardware/digitalcameras/

I bought the Dimage Z5 because:

Konica Minolta DiMage Z5
Pluses:
+ has CCD anti-shake which uses less power
+ best macro mode to 1 cm.
+ fastest zoom
+ fastest focus
+ fastest save
+ available for $421
+ widest wide angle
+ external flash support with hot shoe
+ supports S-video
+ uses 4 rechargeable NiMH AA cells
+ supports manual focus and manual white balance
+ has widest ISO range
Minuses:
- No focus assist lamp

Yes but the focus is slow. The Panasonic FZ5 and especially the FZ7
would be a better choice.

Agreed. The Panasonic have a better Leica lens than the Canon and perhaps
don't cost as much. Aren't Minolta pulling out of the camera business?

I bought a Panasonic FZ5K 2 days ago at Circuit City online. Regular price
was 369.99 but checked out at 314.99 plus tax. Picked it up at my local
store, but the shipping would have been free. That's the lowest price I
could find on the web at any reputable store or dealer. The camera has been
great the few days I've owned it.

And it remains to be seen what Sony will do with them.
