Default Website for photos?

OK, here's what I'd like to do...

I"m going to be shooting some events, and I'd like to put photos on one of the
websites like pbase. But I need to display a lot of photos - most likely in the
hundreds. And I need to give out the web address on business cards so people
can go to the website, find the images they want, and contact me to order them.
And the images have to be storable in sufficient quality that people will be
able to view them full-screen in various resolutions...

And, of course, cost is a significant factor... So its gotta be
"inexpensive"...

I've been hearing bad things about pbase lately - something to do with
thumbnails not working and very poor support as far as getting the site
organizers to fix it...

So, is there a good, inexpensive, photo site out there that meets my needs?

According to pbase's site, membership with 600M is US$60 annually. Why
not do your own? You can get a domain name for under US$10/year, and
hosting for US$60/year. There are photo gallery packages available for
free or cheap - I use Singapore http://singapore.sourceforge.net/ So the
whole package would be under US$100/year, and you'd have almost complete
control.

Get your own domain name and then get a hosting company. For $90/year or
around that price you'll get full features and about 1gig of space.

I use godaddy.com for domain registration and then use lunarpages.com for my
webhosting.

Thanks for the replies folks... I contacted a friend who does web sites and she
echoed your advice... So, it looks like I'll try putting something together
with her assistance... She says for a simple site like what I'm after it
shouldn't take more than a couple hours......

OK, lazy as I am I took your collective advice and started doing a bit of html
programming to put up the photographic web site... Its now up and I'm starting
to get some of the photographs put out there. Nothing real interesting yet
'cause I've gotta get all the winter carnival photos posted before I can start
on my artsy stuff... BUT, so far its been pretty easy to get a domain and do
the programming and get the thing up... I'm now at dperezphoto.com and
eventually I hope to have some things up there that in here folks will like.
