RAW files from any camera (regardless of the file extension) are specific to that brand and possibly even to that camera model. You can't simply "convert" one raw format to another. You either need to use an appropriate converter utility, as supplied by the camera maker, to convert it into a standard image format like JPEG or TIFF, or your software of choice needs to be able to import the format itself (usually done using a plug-in). |

RAW files from any camera (regardless of the file extension) are specific to that brand and possibly even to that camera model. You can't simply "convert" one raw format to another. Well, you can sort of do it. You can convert most RAW formats to DNG, which is sort of a "generic RAW". You can get the converter from Adobe for free from he http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ I don't know whether or not the DNG converter supports .RAF, nor do I know whether or not IPhoto supports DNG, but it's worth a shot. - Darryl |

I think I read that nikon capture nx can do this. Not sure though. Lots of Greetings! Volker -- For email replies, please substitute the obvious. |

There ain't any that will do any good. Why would those people ask for a RAW file? To get more detail, and have more latitude in making adjustments; or you tell me. The best you can do is convert the jpeg to PSD and hope that'll do, but it won't create a file with more detail than the jpeg already has. -- John McWilliams |

[snip] I don't know whether or not the DNG converter supports .RAF, Yes, for a specific set of Fujifilm cameras: http://www.barry.pearson.name/articl...n.htm#fujifilm http://www.barry.pearson.name/articl...n.htm#examples nor do I know whether or not IPhoto supports DNG, but it's worth a shot. Yes, but not for all variants & all cameras. It has a rather "crippled" level of DNG support. (So have the other Apple products). -- Barry Pearson http://www.barry.pearson.name/photography/ |

[snip] No. NX can convert a JPEG to NEF, but not "raw NEF". NEF (like DNG) is more than just a raw file format. -- Barry Pearson http://www.barry.pearson.name/photography/ |

When they ask for a RAW file its because they want to do all corrections
themselves or insure that its not been edited....either or both. If you shoot JPGs then send them the file as it comes from the camera and explain that its the file from the camera. Or...you can shoot RAW like most pros. Lots of news lately about photoshopped art ...and photographers and editors are loosing jobs over it...they are just taking precautions. If you edit for color balance and contrast...that's fair...ask if you can send both the original to prove its not edited for content and the corrected version to be sure it looks right to you...as you were there and they were not. -- Thanks, Gene Palmiter (visit my photo gallery at http://palmiter.dotphoto.com) freebridge design group "Joe" wrote in message oups.com...
