Default Photopaint vs Paint Shop Pro

I'm really confused. People keep talking about a program called
"Photopaint" or perhaps "Photo-Paint" w respect to image editing
programs such as Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. I got the impression that
Photopaint was a Corel product, but it is nowhere to be found on the
Corel site. What I was trying to figure out is whether Photopaint is
superior (i.e. more expensive) to Paint Shop Pro 9. I don't know where
it fits in. But now I'm not so sure it even exists, in several Google
searches.

Photopaint is similar in scope to Photoshop, including full color management
tools, but actually even more arcane than Photoshop (probably because the
interface has to be different enough from Photoshop to avoid copyright
infringement). If you want a complete imaging package at a reasonable price
the Corel Draw package (which includes Photopaint) is a real bargain.
However there is a steep learning curve as these are very sophisticated
programs.
While most photographers prefer Photoshop many graphic artists prefer Corel
Draw to its Adobe counterpart.

Now that Corel owns both Paint Shop and Photo Paint, that is a very good
question.

One that is unlikely to be answered soon. Stay tuned.

Photo-Paint is a Corel program and it usually is available. It is capable of
doing 16 bit operations which PSP is not. This is not a minor quibble -
unless your camera is not caapble of putting out high bit images in the
first place, go with Photo-Paint.

PhotoPaint is a high-end app similar to PhotoShop. It was available as a
stand-alone and as part of Corel Draw. It's now only available as part of
the Corel Draw graphics suite.
