Resetting Image Sequence Number - Nikon 5700
Hi All,
I recently had to have may Nikon 5700 repaired under warranty. The SB indicator would not stop blinking and thus I could not take a flash picture. Apparently, this has been a problem with many 5700s. At any rate, the camera works fine now. However, when my camera was returned from repair I noticed that may image sequence was re-inialized to about 8500, which gives me about 1500 more pictures before it exceeds the 10,000 number limit, as I see it. When I sent it in it was only at about 1500 or so. Is there a way that I can set the initial number to something other than zero. Once I get to 10,000, I will start repeating file names, which does not sound like a good idea at all. Any ideas on what to do to get around this? I will contact Nikon, but I don't want to give up my camera again if I can help it. TIA Don S. |

Read the manual - it tells you how to do this. Set the camera to take the number off the card. Just take a card and rename the highest numbered file to what you want (DSCN1500.jpg). The next picture will be 1501. The set the camera to remember sequence numbers. BTW: mine is at 8676. My wife's 990 has gone past the 10,000. Cheers, David |

I also made the assumption that the camera would reset at 9999, since all of the leading zeros were used up. I guess I better go read that whole section again. Don S. |

Yes, please check out the manual - it does cover this, but you need to fiddle the highest number on one card to set the sequence number higher than zero (1) once you have reset it. The sequence number will reset after it reaches 9999, I didn't mean to imply that the 990 did anything else. Cheers, David |
