Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR DX
I won't get it. I already have the 70-300 mm VR, 700-200mm VR, the
80-400mm VR, ad nauseum. Clearly this lens would be redundant. -- Waddling Eagle World Famous Flight Instructor

For those just starting though, perhaps with a body and the kit 18-55mm, this makes an excellent second lens, a telephoto lens, being both lighter and smaller than to more limited (but full-frame) 70-300mm Nikon VR. If I could afford it, I might swap my 70-300 for this lens right away (although I'd like to see a performance comparison first - the 70-300 isn't the sharpest of telephotos, but neither is it the most expensive).
