last element, which rotates inside the housing, allowing one to fix filters
to the lens housing, free of the last element, as it were. Sort of a
pseudo-internal focus. Danged thing vignettes, though.

i think this is called helical focus (hf) sometimes. its by far less
reliable construction than the other two.
