I have used two different teleconverters, and I have noticed significant
image degradation with each of them. That is not something that I was
"told," I saw the results with my own eyes.

If I understand it correctly, the magnification of the image reduces the
resolution proportionally. So, if your lens is resolving, say 40 lpm, the
2x teleconverter results in approximately 20 lpm, not to mention any other
type of aberrations that the additional glass adds to the equation.

I have never had any problem seeing the negative effect that these
attachments have had on my images. If one has a low tolerance for image
degradation, then I would say that lens attachments are "junk."

Truth be told, uncle Tony says that you shouldn't believe everything you
read on usenet because a lot of people make comments on things they have
no experience with.

Sadly he seems to be one of them, so how, pray tell, are we supposed to
take him seriously when he says that the Nikon F4 is a dog? Dead lead? Etc?

I can't comment on that question, because I killfiled him long ago. I read
and post on newsgroups to get information or swap ideas with others--not to
get involved in a war with people I don't know and will probably never meet.

My signature (below) expresses my thoughts on the subject:

wish to post to an unmoderated newsgroup such as this one. Informed readers,
however, will have no trouble at all sorting the wheat from the chaff.
