Default shrinking mem card Q?

I hear that the more you use a photo card, the less it holds, why is this?
would it help to leave 1 pic on it every time I download off it?
Thanks

I've never heard this, and it's not true of any of the cards I've used
(the oldest is now 4 years and a bit old).

would it help to leave 1 pic on it every time I download off it?

No. The reverse, if anything.

If you're actually having a problem with reducing size, I'd suggest a
workflow where you format the card in the camera just before each
use. In fact I'd suggest such a workflow anyway.

What you've heard is simply incorrect.
If you format the card, it will return to it's originally formatted
capacity.

I would think it possible that if a person never reformatted their card (and
simply deleted files off of it instead), that there could be some build-up
of other system/data files (other than image files) which could be left on
the card by some cameras. This is easily corrected by formatting.

If you dont use it youl loss it. Oh sorry wrong answer. I must be lossing

it but I'm not hearing voices telling me my cards lose ability if you leave
images on them:-)
Seriosly R Hamm. The more you load it with out ridding it of images you will
fill it up. But its not the same situaltion as on some older rechargable
batteries had a memory which if you didnt completely discharge would only
remember the last charged condition. So would gradualy loose its ability to
take a charged. I think thats what you may have mixed up with.

You heard wrong. My memory cards hold exactly the same # of images as the
day I got them.
