If you check my headers you'll find out I already post thru news.cis.dfn.de for text groups. But most ELNK users aren't going to sign up with another news provider just to get a few new groups. I voted in favour of the creation of that group, but to say that DSLR discussions that are on-topic here should be moved to the new group is outrageous. "outrageous"? That's a bit strong, Andrew. That's very mild compared with what I started to say. But I'm trying to raise the standard here. :-) Read what I wrote: "SLR camera specific discussions" ... that's _what_ the new NG is for. You said "please take all digital SLR camera specific discussions there", as though it were something that people should do. Well, it isn't. It's something that people may do if they wish, but that's all. Asking people to move on-topic discussions to another group is, to say the least, rude. The whole idea of the new groups is to improve readability and communications, in large part by reducing the number of headers one needs to wade through (personally this is the biggest reason why rpd is no longer an NG I read a lot). Well, it would be perfectly OK to advise people that there is another group that they'd find to be useful. But asking people to take their on-topic posts to another group is way out of line. It's something that people may do if they wish, but that's all. Asking people to move on-topic discussions to another group is, to say the least, rude. Enthusiastic, perhaps, but not rude. The NG was created for a specific reason .... the discussion of slr type digital cameras... Discussions here (rpd) regarding digital as a more general topic (DSLR or otherwise) are entirely appropriate... but specific to DSLR discussions should move to the new NG. That's what it's all about. Your opinion, which you are entirely free to express. But, again, we didn't go through the process of creating the NG with the expectation of duplication on rpd. The whole purpose is to make rpd less cluttered and more readable ... by moving subjects into narrower areas. Yep, and all your zlr / P&S talk can move to news:rec.photo.digital.zlr and point+shoot, at last your very own area!
