Default Need gift for owner of Printmaker 67!

No, please don't tell me "another enlarger"....

I can't spend much more than $100 or so....

I'm thinking about an El Nikkor 2.5 50mm....? Would this be a
significant upgrade over the stock Beseler? Will it work with the
Printmaker?

Thanks

All enlarger lenses work with all enlargers, more or less... Nikkor and
Schneider lenses certainly fit Beseler enlargers and are better than the
Beseler lenses that come with them. I'll let others debate exactly which
50-mm lens is best.

Also, does this person have a good enlarging timer and enlarging exposure
meter?

It's a fine lens for the money and much better than the "Stock".
I still use mine (originally on a 76C) to do 11x16s from 35mm on my existing
ancient Omega II. There are "better" lenses at about least double the price
of the Nikon (wonder why?) If used, look for easy diaphragm movement and
clarity of glass. A few marks and even a small scratch will make little
difference in performance, but fog from deteriorated segment cement and / or
fungus will effect the contrast greatly. Examine the glass carefully with a
loupe (I use another lens) and a small flashlight to detect faults -
focusing on each element in tern. Beware scratches on the rear element.

Truly, dr bob.

For $100 you should be able to find a decent used Componon.
Nikkor 50mm is only worth about $40-50.00

Yeah, thought of that but.... "!"....

I bought a "Like New" El Nikkor 2.5 50mm, and learned a lot about
bokeh in the process, which was interesting...

ASIDE: erm... what does "Needs ring" mean....?

Thanks all...

There needs to be a threaded locking ring to secure the lens to the lens
board. I think the Nikor takes a "standard" 39mm size. They are not hard
to find if there is a camera repair place nearby. There are alternatives
one can employ until the proper ring is located I.E., an O-ring of proper
fit. See your local hardware.

Truly, dr bob.

It needs the threaded ring that attaches it to the lensboard. Presumably,
the ring from the existing Beseler lens can be used.

I should add that since this lens will be replacing another, you can use the
ring from the old one.

With some enlargers, such as my Beseler 23C, the lensboard is
interchangeable for quick lens-changing, and I have each lens attached with
its own ring to its own lensboard.
