Default Nikon 35mm gear what to do...

I've got a load of 35mm gear ie FTn, F2S, F2SB, F2A's, F2AS, Nikkormats,
Rangefinder SP, S2 and S bodies. All prety much excellent con....some
original boxed. Sorta collector quality.

is it better to put this lot in an auction or sell on ebay.

How are high street (Christies) auction house prices....

I'd rather get rid of the lot in one hit..........seems easier to trot them
to Christies than sort out pics and descriptions.

You'd better be quick, as Christie's is ending its photographic
auctions, I believe this year. The last one may already have taken
place. The reason - eBay.

A good alternative would be to have a dealer sell them for you on a
commission basis. Some dealers will buy for cash but you tend to get
less than when you let them sell it for you. They charge 16% to 20%
commission but get very good prices. These two are good for Nikon:

Finally, Grays of Westminster specialise in used and new Nikon gear,
and have just opened a new floor selling only used Nikon.

And of course, there is eBay.

I sometimes wish I had sold my Nikon collection a couple of years ago...when
the market was strong. Had I known what was happening in the market, I'd
have sold everything and kept a Nikkormat or F3 as a user and made a decent
return on the rest.

Sad as it seems film cameras are rapidly turning into museum pieces with no
real appreciable value.

Did you buy your gear to make money or to take pictures?

All film camera equipment will go down in value for a while longer.

Then, I think, the market for name-brand equipment (Nikon, etc.) in
pristine condition will go up -- maybe way up. This won't be equipment
for actual use; quite the opposite. This will be equipment to be
treasured for its own sake. That's the typical "collectibility cycle."

Film stuff in ordinary, banged-around user condition will go nowhere
but down. Face it, the digital revolution has already taken place.

The lesson: get rid of the user-condition stuff now while you still
can -- but this is a good time to buy the pristine stuff to store away
as an investment.
