Olympus launches micro 4/3 camera - Web site warning
In article , SMS says...
The E-P1 looks interesting, though the fact that an EVF is an optional accessory, and an optical viewfinder for the 17mm lens needs to be attached to the hot shoe, shows that they still just don't get it. The optional viewfinder, which can be attached on top of the camera is optical. Praise g-d that they're not using XD memory cards. Steve, they are using SD. -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus 50X0, 8080, E3X0, E4X0, E5X0 and E3 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ http://myolympus.org/ photo sharing site |

Glitzy embellishments are not only extremely annoying, but, they take much longer to load, if one is on a slow connection. These offending Web designers have no consideration for dial-up users (such as myself), apparently. Broadband coverage is still somewhat spotty. I know one fellow who lives in the hills about three miles out of town. You are correct, he cannot get any broadband carrier. |

I thought they were going to have a hot shoe EVF similar to what Ricoh did, but apparently not. The optical viewfinder only works with the prime lens. And it has a parallax. Probably the next rev of the E-P1 will correct the deficiencies. On smaller cameras I'm especially careful to never get one without an optical or electronic VF since I take them backpacking where I want to conserve the battery (as well as being able to hold the camera properly). It's not a deficiency. They deliberately left out the viewfinder to save space. BTW, optical viewfinders in compact cameras are close to useless. -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus 50X0, 8080, E3X0, E4X0, E5X0 and E3 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ http://myolympus.org/ photo sharing site |

How nice. Hello, John: It was just an "inside joke," with no disrespect intended. Japan's key naval defeat, in the Battle of Midway, was partially due to American Magic...if you know what I mean? I'm guessing they think typical dial-up users are not sufficiently technically inclined to be a significant marketing concern. Hello, John: It's much more likely that, they doubt dial-up dummies could afford their expensive DSLR cameras. :-J Cordially, John Turco |
