Default Shutterbug pronounces editorial sports photography as DEAD, dead, dead

On 2015-10-10 00:46:06 +0000, RichA said:

Their latest issue explains why, from a group of professionals. Seems
that the remaining sports photogs are likely contracted by teams
themselves.

The smartphone sports photographer isn't about to replace the pro on
the sidelines at the major sporting events, from tennis, football (both
types NFL & FIFA), NBA, MLB, NHL, open tennis, F1 auto racing,
Olympics, etc.

Some photogs will be contracted by teams, some by media, and some will
be credentialed as free-lancers. What you won't find are prime
locations at sporting events crowded with the selfie mob hoping for a
scoop. No smartphone is going to replace a pro-grade camera with
quality fast glass.
