Default Update to my XD-11 CLA

I sent my XD-11 to Garry's camera repair
http://www22.brinkster.com/garryscamera/ and got it back today.

I sent it out on Oct 12 and got it back today Oct 22. I have to say
Garry did a fine job of servicing it. He even cleaned to prism and
view screen. Excellent turnaround time.

All shutter speeds are working and the advance which was a little
rough is now smooth as silk. Meter was adjusted and is dead on.

Total cost of repair $45 + $8 shipping.

BTW: Camera passed the film test.

Default Update to my XD-11 CLA

I had my XD 11 and motor winder overhauled a few years ago and it cost me
almost as much as a replacement might have.
However one cannot put a price on sentimental value and that camera and I
went through many years together.

I have several Minolta cameras but the XD-11 is my favorite. I hated
to have to send it out but it was worth it in the end.

Colyn,
Like you, I have several fine Minolta cameras, but no XD-11. However, I
enjoy the next-best thing -- the XD-5, which is very similar. I have a mint
example and not long ago acquired a second mint XD-5, just in case. Some of
the classic Minolta MD lenses produce photos that look just as good to me as
my best Nikkor and Pentax glass. My favorite is the Minolta MD 35-70 Macro
f3.5, allegedly made in concert with the Leica folks. I have two of those
also.......just in case. Very, very nice! Fun to use on the XD-5, XE-5 (an
oldie but a goodie, although heavy), and the more modern manual stuff like
the X570 and X-700.

If I recall correctly the difference between the XD-11 and XD-5 is
in the viewfinder information. Other than that they are identical.
Both fine cameras.

Actually the 35-70mm f/3.5 and the 70-210mm f/4 constant aperture were
made for both Minolta and Leitz. 2 of the best zooms in my opinion. I
have both.

In addition to my XD-11, I have a couple of XE-7's, 4 SRT's, XG-9, and
X700. I recently sold my XK partly because of the weight. Carrying
that camera would wear you out in no time. I plan to buy a second
XD-11 soon.

I also have several rangefinder Minoltas which include the Super A and
Hi-Matic 7sII.

Minolta has long been considered one of the best lens makers. In fact
they are one of only a few that makes their own glass.
