In article , Rich
A says...
Added: This debacle has cost Samsung $17 billion, not including future loses.

But it taught them something. That's very important. In the future
Samsung will be more careful about what products they launch.

doubtful, given that they're trying to cover up this one.

I guess that means cancelling this delivery.

Samsung managed to produce and sell many thousands of washing machines
with electrical faults here (and in Australia) which caused them to
catch fire - they weren't "isolated incidents" either, the fault almost
guaranteed that over time they'd at least fail - and they have caused
many house fires.
Samsung arranged a recall (starting in about 2013) which wasn't
particularly effective - as there are still incidents happening. In
some cases the agents who'd "repaired" the recalled machines didn't do
an adequate job - so even recalled "fixed" machines can't be trusted.

I went to google a link to the problems with Samsung washing machines
here, and find that there are now reports of Samsung washing machines
catching fire in the US - and these were with machines produced recently.

I see that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission is now onto it.

That's

not a delivery, that's an artist's rendering of a ship that
Samsung is building for somebody else. Samsung has one of the world's
largest shipbuilding operations and they don't sabotage that by
competing with their customers.

I guess your satire meter is faulty.

The real issue is, with first their washing machines bursting into
flame, and now the Galaxy Note 7, are the container ships they build
next on the self-immolation hit list?

That aside, even if it was a real ship, whichever containers held Galaxy
Note 7s would be going back to Korea.

Having a recall is bad enough--having to recall the replacements is a
disaster.

Yup!

It keeps getting worse. Today (Saturday) the Note 7 was banned from all
commercial aircraft taking off or landing in the U.S. That's arguably an
overreaction, but nowadays all governmental entities in the U.S. feel obliged
to overreact to everything.

I don't think it's an over-reaction. The odds of a self-ignition event
are not acceptable. Carrying Galaxy Note 7s is banned in the south
Pacific also. It would be foolish not to do so.

Korean roulette :-)
