Default More on the restart

I recently picked up one of those old Fujinon W 210/5.6 for use with
both the 8x10 and the 4x5. The image circle is reportedly a generous
352mm, leaving about 1 inch of movement on 8x10. More than enough for
4x5.

Another recent acquisition is one of the Ilex 90/8 lenses. Super
Angulon copy I'm told. Loks nice and the shutter is perfect. If it
acutally has a 210mm coverage then it might be fun to use with 8x10,
covering 1/2 or more of the sheet. Maybe I'll experiment and use it
directly on some paper first.

Here's a recent 4x5 portrait. APX 100, single umbrella light (Sunpak
611 @ full power). I know the pose is lacking (hadn't shot a model in
about 20 years), but it was a fun experience.

Printed on RC paper with just a little extra contrast added to make
the background drop out a bit. She actually looks better on a grade 2
setting but I found that the background blended too much, making her
not stand out.

Now to do some 8x10 portrait work! (and to work on my posing, of
course)

It is difficult to hit the self timer and jump in front to pose properly,
eh?
Good work. One of your daughters, I'll bet!

Not bad for a single light. The way to get the background dark
is metering the bg lighting, which I'm sure you know. But I don't
see anything too hot as it is.

Hands usually look out of place in portraits. Not here.

A great job Collin !!!
I think its a very, very nice portrait--You should be proud!!!!
My first shot at 4x5 Portraiture was an image(s) of my 2 small sons with a
similar background lit separately shot on Plus X 125. LF portraits are tough
business but I managed my 2 uncooperative boys! My images are printed at
11x14 and displayed in a 16x20 frame.The image is tack sharp (mostly--I
don't care now for the somewhat grainy Plus X and prefer Ilford FP-4 as far
as portraits go) --I catch myself eyeing that particular portrait all the
time--I am rather proud of that portrait and maybe a little biased toward
the subjects!!
