Default Ball head for (old) Linhof tripod

Having used 35mm for 40 years, I've just purchased an old but complete LF
view / field camera kit, a 5" x 4" MPP Micro-Technical VI.

All seems to work OK except the Schiansky Ball head which fits on the Linhof
tripod. In my opinion, the ball head is nowhere near solid enough to safely
hold a 6lb. camera, particularly when set at an angle. So I'm looking for a
better ball head with a 3/8" screw fitting (male) at the camera end, and a
3/8" screw, also male, at the tripod end. Web catalogues seem curiously
silent about the size and sex of the fittings, so could anyone advise me
what types I should be looking at. Hopefully, I don't have to replace both
tripod and head!

(I can't find any type number on the 3 section legs + centre column Linhof
tripod, and it's not listed in my old catalogues from the mid '60s era.)

Alternatively, a recommendation for a 3/8" male camera fitting, 3/8" female
tripod fitting, ballhead which would fit on my Benbo tripod which has a 3/8"
male screw on its camera support.

Many thanks.

The Linhof Profi II or III, The Novoflex Classic Ball 5 or the Kaiser
Medium or Large Pro Heads will all easily support your camera and fit
the Linhof. Also the Giotto's 3000 head.

oct2704 from Lloyd Erlick,

Linhof makes a wonderful tripod accesory called (I
think...) Quick Fix. It's a two piece chunk of machined
metal; one hunk on the tripod, one on the camera. It
has a lever that allows for (Quick) release and
reattachment.

(I might have the spelling wrong -- it might be Quik
Fix, at least for the chocolate version).

I love these things; I have three. An investment over
the years. I've got one on a 'blad, a Leica, had one on
a video camera I borrowed. Very secure feeling to have
the camera and tripod joined by this thing.

regards,

It is the Quick Fix and there are two models. One that uses square
Linhof plates and one that uses rectangular Linhof plates.
