Aah! The extra vowel paradox. Even now I am compelled to contemplate
humour of a different flavour.

Fortunately, with my wife's & my mother's all English side of the
family, and my father's somewhat hillbilly side of the family, I have
been compelled to be fully trans-pond bilingual in pronunciation,
spelling and idiom. My first trip to the UK was in 1955, and has been
repeated quite frequently, but not recently.

This twisted family history contributed to my bizarre cultural
development by early exposure to 50's BBC radio comedy such as the
"Goons", and cousins in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia who are
almost beyond understanding with every utterance (subtitles would have
been very helpful). For me, upstate NY was a field of neutral ground.
