Perhaps you should worship your daddy's sperm.

Did God create us or did we create God?

Perhaps you should try to be a bit more civil.

Impossible for a redneck.

OK.....Now, lets suppose that you know him to be a suicidal maniac, who

to explode it, and take us all to heaven."

Way to build up the strawman there.

Oh, and good luck with your report to the police.....

You're right; I'd call the FBI, ATF, and/or the DHS at that point.
They take bomb threats quite seriously these days.

While I generally agree with you here, I have one nit to pick. It's not
"between Christanity and radical Islam", it's "between Radical
Christianity, Radical Islam, Radical Judiasm, Radical Norse Pagans,
and/or Radical [Religion X, Y, or Z]"

What all of those radical fundamentalists have in common is that they
believe that They Are Right, Everyone Else Is Wrong, and that the ends
(post-mortem eternal booty or whatnot) justify the means (Hey, by
killing them I did them a favor; God told me to do it so it's not
murder! Whatever.)

malevolent and totally unable to co-exist with anyone else....They can't
even co-exist with each other, since they believe you are doing them a favor
by killing them and sending them to Allah prematurely.......

I know you're talking about the Shi'a and Sunni schism here, but I
remember reading about a few bloody conflicts between various Christian
sects.

Wars are never truly fought over religion; while the folks doing the
dying may believe it, the folks calling the shots know war is really
about economics: Opening/expanding trade routes, securing resources and
markets, plus the immediate economic benefit of the spoils of war.

Or, if you're really cynical, war is also a means to control your own
population.

This is not a trustworthy quote, in part because it was first published
some six hundred years after the supposed event.

This article is a good summary of the problems with this account:

http://www.nybooks.com/articles/3517

(It's well-cited too, in case you are wondering)

.....

Now if this book-burning story supposedly occured in, say, the middle
ages, it would be more credible, but Islam was fairly enlightened in its
earlier years to its middle age, indeed their devotion to and pursuit
knowledge is why the works of (for example) Plato and Aristotle are
still around.

Please, let's judge people for what they do *now*, not what their
distant ancestors may or may not have done a thousand years ago.

The exact quote:

"I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than
you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible
gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
-- Stephen F. Roberts

And since I'm digging through my quote file:

"Even a child is bright enough to see through the god myth. What child
hasn't asked 'who created god?'"

I can't say I ever remember seeing one in the past ten years; there
certianly isn't one in the general area (pop: ~200K) where I live.

There is, however, a Walgreens or a CVS at every major intersection, and
many minor ones too..

There are people right now who would like to burn books if they could, and
who do burn them if they have the power to do so....Some of them are talk
show hosts in San Francisco. Others are leaders of countries.......
