For some users, that in of itself may very well be effectively a "never" right from the start. not all things benefit from offloading to a gpu. True enough. when something benefits from the gpu, adobe uses the gpu. if it doesn't, they don't. that's exactly how it should be. Within reason. The problem they have is that their design architectural configuration traditionally was quite serial and didn't allow for parallelism leveraging as parallelism became more commonplace/feasible/beneficial. Quite true. But this is all the more reason to ensure that your hardware meets Adobes (future) requirements. Sure ... but that can very much be a crap shoot, particularly if one happens to pick a "better" but less popular product, since Adobe's certification process also includes in-house qualification testing. As such, it may be wiser to stick with a less powerful but more mainstream GPU card because it will be more likely to be tested to be certified and thus, be on their list. they can't test every card. And those that they do test will be based on a prioritization criteria. Overall, Adobe's not really a particularly sophisticated user of GPU potential nonsense. Oh, and you were doing so well! The cited Adobe webpage made it pretty clear that their software is limited to only using one GPU card at a time. Contrasting that limitation on sophistication, I can personally recall working on a project with image analysis that used multiple discrete GPU cards (IIRC, ~8) ... way back in 2004. Now you may wish to claim that Adobe is "sophisticated", but compared to how others have done distributed graphical processing across multiple discrete GPU cards, Adobe's current status is over a decade behind the start of the art. Functionally, Adobe's architectural design is relying merely on the technological progress of making a single GPU card faster, rather than themselves extending the principles of parallel processing to leverage using multiple discrete cards. -hh |

Care to cite references that prove your claim that home users overwhelmingly choose a Mac over a Windows PC? here's a few: https://www.jamf.com/blog/debate-ove...acs-are-535-le ss-expensive-than-pcs/ In 2015, IBM let their employees decide * Windows or Mac. ³The goal was to deliver a great employee choice program and strive to achieve the best Mac program,² Previn said. An emerging favorite meant the deployment of 30,000 Macs over the course of the year. But that number has grown. With more employees choosing Mac than ever before, the company now has 90,000 deployed (with only five admins supporting them), making it the largest Mac deployment on earth. But isn¹t it expensive, and doesn¹t it overload IT? No. IBM found that not only do PCs drive twice the amount of support calls, they¹re also three times more expensive. That¹s right, depending on the model, IBM is saving anywhere from $273 - $543 per Mac compared to a PC, over a four-year lifespan. ³And this reflects the best pricing we¹ve ever gotten from Microsoft,² Previn said. Multiply that number by the 100,000+ Macs IBM expects to have deployed by the end of the year, and we¹re talking some serious savings. Needless to say, the employees at IBM got it right. And with 73% of them saying they want their next computer to be a Mac, the success will only increase with time. https://betanews.com/2010/02/01/nine...iced-pcs-sold- at-us-retail-is-a-mac/ ...In July, I reported that*Apple's revenue share for PCs selling for more than $1,000 was 91 percent, because of higher average selling prices; nearly all Macs sold for more than $1,000. Now Apple benefits from 90-percent unit share, too. Stated differently: Nine out of 10 premium PCs purchased from US retail brick-and-mortar stores or online sites (including major chains and Apple Store) during fourth quarter was a Mac. apple only offers one model under $1000, so obviously they won't dominate that segment, but those are *not* all windows. schools are overwhemingly choosing chromebooks, which typically sell for $200 or so, and they now dominate the education sector. moving up to the $500 range, tablets are a very popular choice, often replacing a laptop. mac sales overall have been outpacing the industry itself nearly every quarter for more than 10 years. mac sales are growing while the industry itself is shrinking. visit a microsoft store and it'll be empty, maybe a couple of customers there. visit an apple store and it will be packed with people buying stuff, and during the holidays, it's *really* packed, so much so that there's often a line just to get into the store because it's at the capacity of the building. meanwhile, people walk right past the microsoft store. The fact is they don't. Other than purely anecdotal evidence, why didn't you simply say that you really cannot cite any proof to your claim that "when people *do* have a choice, based on an objective comparison of the options available, they overwhelmingly choose a mac" The facts are that home users overwhelmingly choose Windows PCs. Most home users aren't using "premium" systems and, furthermore, the numbers never take into account the who-knows-how-many thousands and thousands of people who build their own premium PCs and they run Windows. LOL. You are good for a laugh. Sales for 2016: Lenovo 21.3%, HP 20.9%, Dell 15.7%, Asus 7.1%, Apple 7.1%, all others 27.7% https://9to5mac.com/2017/01/23/mac-s...gained-ground/ Explain how that equates to the majority of users choosing a Mac over a Windows PC. |
