Cadillac's heyday (not "hayday") came during the 1930's, when it was
a great car (among many such American luxury vehicles), not merely
a good one.

After WWII, however, Cadillac suffered the same fate as the U.S.
automobile industry in general, and turned into just another, banal,
"cookie cutter" design. Then, in the sixtes and seventies, it grew
to the size of an aircraft carrier, and fully earned your scornful
statements, above.

Nonetheless, that grim era shouldn't be allowed to erase the memory
of Cadillac's more distant, glorious past. General Motors was once
justified in calling the product of its most esteemed automotive
division, "The Standard of the World."
